JANUARY 10 AND JANUARY 11 AND JANUARY 12 (STUDENTS SHOULD ATTEND ALL THREE SESSIONS) 9 AM - 12 PM EACH DAY This class will focus on basic public speaking techniques that will assist English Language Learners with their confidence in Conversational English and self-presentation. This course will focus on the development of skills such as active listening, eye contact, non-verbal ques and body language, stress and anxiety management, and will serve to empower students and give them the confidence to engage in meaningful conversations in English, communicate both verbally and non-verbally in English in groups and one-on-one conversations, and help students learn how to command an audience and be heard. JANUARY 11 AND JANUARY 12 AND JANUARY 13 (STUDENTS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND ALL THREE SESSIONS) 9 AM TO 12 PM VIA ZOOM How can intermediate to advanced English Language Learners improve their reading and writing skills as well as be able to distinguish fact from fiction in the news? We will explore helpful print and audio websites such as “Voice of America Learning English”, “Breaking News English”, the” N.Y. Times Learning Network”, “Newsy”, CNN 10 News for Students, PBS broadcasts, and TED Talks. This is not a complete list but unbiased articles and podcasts would be chosen from trustworthy sources. JANUARY 19 AND JANUARY 20 (STUDENTS SHOULD ATTEND BOTH SESSIONS) 9AM-12PM This class will help students to identify their fears and concerns regarding their ability to communicate verbally in English, allow students to explore the root causes of their anxieties, teach students how to overcome their fears and anxieties, practice confidence building exercises and techniques, and encourage students to speak through their fears. During course sessions, students will also build vocabulary, practice active listening, and engage in conversational English with their peers and professor. Additionally, students will be encouraged to practically apply the lessons and methods learned in this course in their daily lives and discuss their progress from session to session. Workshops are free of charge and open to all current and prospective students.

JANUARY 18 AND JANUARY 19 AND JANUARY 20 (STUDENTS SHOULD ATTEND ALL THREE SESSIONS) 6PM-9PM EACH NIGHT In this class, we’ll explore and use the Color Vowel Chart, a fun and effective way to learn the 15 clear vowel sounds of English. We’ll practice by matching vocabulary words with colors, and by using chants, tongue twisters, and dialogues. We’ll also learn about schwa, the most common vowel sound in English. Workshops are free of charge and open to all current and prospective students.
